Quiet Spaces

Healing begins when we create room for peace. If you have experienced trauma, stigma, or generational pain, taking care of yourselves doesn’t always come naturally. We’ve been taught to grind through the pain, to put others before yourself because your needs can wait. But the truth is: self-care is a form of survival that we are not taking advantage of. It’s how we build mental wealth—the kind of wealth that no system can take from you. Self-Care is about reclaiming that lost power and today, we begin with quiet spaces.

Peace Be Still

The world around us is loud—politics, trendy TikTok’s, your job (just over broke), and family responsibilities. The power of. A quiet space is undervalued in today’s world. A corner of your room, a park bench, or even your car can hold the secrets you need to recalibrate. In these spaces we are the creators of peace within ourselves and the word around us. Once you experience the mental and physical results of a quiet space, you’ll want it more often. Ask yourself when was the last time you took 10-minutes to pause? To breathe before starting the day? Or what about a walk without headphones, allowing nature to speak. It is time to off the notifications and become refreshed with the silence that YOU control.

My Quiet Space This Week

Today, I sat in my garage and just listened to the rain. No music, no phone, no conversation—just me, the sound of water, and the calm it carried. The raindrops against the pavement reminded me that peace doesn’t always have to be sought out; sometimes, it’s already waiting around us if we’re willing to pause and notice.

That moment of stillness was enough to reset my mind and soften the weight I had been carrying. Your quiet space doesn’t have to be perfect—it just has to be yours.

Your turn

Even as adults we don’t like homework, but I’m challenging every reader to find their quiet space this week. If you need a foundation to start here are a few strategies to help you lean into the silence:

• 5-minute journaling prompt: “What do I hear in the quiet?” or “What truths did I find in the silence?”

• Replace music with frequencies—sounds designed to shift mood and energy. Sometimes we need calming tones and uplifting vibrations so trust your body to tell you what you need.

• Instead of running from the silence, sometimes the answers we’ve been searching for only appear when we pause long enough to listen.

• Use quiet spaces to notice your breath—inhale deeply, exhale slowly.

• STRETCH gently while breathing into the silence.

• Let rest be sacred. A nap, a screen-free bedtime, or simply closing your eyes during the day with the intent on healing.

• Listen to nature sounds—rainfall, waves, birdsong, wind in the trees.

• Religious reading can be a reminder of divine guidance and mercy.

• 5 minutes: Close your eyes. Breathe. Notice what your body feels.

• 15 minutes: Write down three things you are releasing this week.

• 1 hour: Unplug completely. Create your quiet space with a playlist, prayer, or silence.

Choose yourself

Self-care isn’t about escaping life—it’s about showing up with a full cup. This week, I invite you to ask yourself:

“Where is my quiet space, and how can I visit it more often?”
